The Iona Gas Plant injects gas into storage reservoirs on behalf of its customers during periods of low gas demand. This gas is withdrawn from storage during periods of high demand such as winter and to support gas fired peak power generation.
TRUenergy Gas Storage provides a storage product that provides the customer with a Maximum Hourly Quantity (MHQ) for the withdrawal of gas from storage for pipeline injection, and a maximum storage volume allowance.
TRUenergy’s Iona Gas Plant is connected to the Victorian Gas Transmission System via the South West Pipeline to Melbourne. VENCorp schedules injections and withdrawals based on customer bids. Customers must be Market Participants and have rights to use the Victorian Gas Transmission System.
The TRUenergy Iona Gas Plant is also connected to the SEA Gas Pipeline for flow to Adelaide. Customers utilising this connection require transmission rights for the SEA Gas Pipeline.

Gas Storage fees consist of a fixed capacity charge for MHQ and storage volume, and variable charges per GJ of plant throughput. Fixed fees range from $160 to $240 per contracted GJ per year for terms of one to five years.
Storage contracts are available until September 30 for the following Reservoir Year (1 October to 30 September). The minimum contract capacity is 20 TJ/day of storage withdrawal (MDWQ).
