GreenPower Options
What happens when I choose a GreenPower option for my business?
Your business's electricity comes from the National Electricity Grid and it can be sourced from either renewable energy sources (e.g. wind) or non-renewable sources (e.g. coal) as demonstrated in the diagram below.
How electricity is supplied to your business via the National Electricity Grid:

When you choose one of our GreenPower options you are instructing us to purchase the equivalent percentage or all of your electricity from accredited renewable sources approved under the GreenPower accreditation program and return it to the National Electricity Grid on your behalf. Your electricity supply does not change when you switch to GreenPower – you will continue to receive your electricity supply from the grid which is made up of a mix of generation sources. By switching to a TRUenergy GreenPower option, you are investing in the development and expansion of accredited renewable energy generation facilities across Australia.
What is GreenPower?
GreenPower is a government accreditation program for electricity generated from renewable energy sources. It is bought by TRUenergy on your behalf.
GreenPower defines renewable energy as electricity which produces no net greenhouse gas emissions and is generated from sources like mini hydro, wind power and biomass.
With TRUenergy GreenPower options added to your energy plan, you will incur an additional charge to your energy costs which is invested in the renewable energy sector.
GreenPower only provides accreditation to generators who meet the highest environmental standards. The GreenPower 'tick' logo tells you that the renewable energy you are purchasing is good for the environment.
TRUenergy's GreenPower options are independently audited on behalf of the government GreenPower program to ensure TRUenergy GreenPower purchases align with sales, providing certainty that TRUenergy is investing in accredited renewable energy as required by the GreenPower program.
