Victorian Price Increase

How much will my bill increase by?

  • The cost of your future bills will depend on your energy consumption: how much energy you use; when you use it; and the discounts that apply to your tariff.  For more information on how to better manage your energy see below
  • We’ve included a table in your letter that shows the new prices you will be paying. It shows GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive prices.
  • There is no change to any discounts, rewards or concessions that you may have linked to your plan.  View more information about TRUenergy offers for residential customers or small business.
  • Your new rates will be effective as of Sunday 23 January 2011 and will appear on the first TRUenergy bill you receive after this date.

Why is there an increase?

  • Higher network costs and operating costs have contributed to the increase in energy rates. For more information on network costs visit, www.aer.gov.au  The increased operating costs are the result of new infrastructure investment and system upgrades.

My prices appear to have gone up by more than the consumer price index (CPI). How can you justify this?

  • The cost of meeting our customers' electricity needs is made up of a number of different factors, these include the cost of buying energy on the wholesale energy market, the cost of transporting energy to your home across the poles and wires infrastructure network, our operating costs and the costs of meeting our obligations under various Government renewable energy schemes.
  • Recently network businesses were approved by the Australian Energy Regulator, to increase their network costs above the CPI to make upgrades and maintain the poles and wires to meet the needs of increasing energy being transport to homes and businesses.
  • We pay network costs on behalf of our customers to the network businesses and then pass these costs in your tariffs.

When will the adjusted prices come into effect?

  • The effective date for your new prices is Sunday 23 January 2011.
  • You will see the new prices on the first bill you receive after these dates.

Will my discounts associated with my plan change?

  • There won’t be any change to any discounts, rebates or rewards that you may have linked to your plan.
