Victorian Smart Meter Rollout
The Victorian Government is working with the energy industry to roll out new electricity meters. Part of this involves electricity distributors (who manage the poles and wire network) progressively replacing all existing manually read electricity meters in Victoria with new more advanced meters or 'smart meters'.
Smart meters are a new kind of electricity meter that will allow Victorian households and small businesses to see how much electricity they're using at any given time. This will help you better manage your energy usage and potentially help you save money on your energy bills.
The rollout of smart meters has already started and will continue through until 2013. You will be advised directly by your electricity distributor when the new smart meters are to be installed in your area.
As the meter rollout progresses we'll continue to provide updates, so keep referring back to this site for more information.

The Features of a Smart Meter
The features of smart meters will progressively become available during the rollout period. Over time these smart meter features will include:
- the ability to access accurate electricity readings for your home or business every 30 minutes, helping you to monitor and manage your electricity usage.
- being remotely read which means that you'll receive fewer estimated bills and you won't need to be home to have your meter read.
- the ability for remote connection of your electricity making it easier to take TRUenergy with you when you move home.
- allowing the electricity distributor in your area to more accurately detect electricity supply faults or outages and respond to them more quickly.
Please Note - In the early stages of the smart meter rollout your new meter may not have full functionality. The meter will continue to be manually read until the supporting telecommunications network and computer systems are fully operational.
